Floating Top Console Table with Cast Glass Panels
A massive beam of wenge supports the floating bubinga top of this console table. Panels of cast glass are suspended by stainless steel pins in the bubinga legs. The legs are slightly angled in to match the subtle angle of the top. The organic forms of the glass panels grew into this design after much thought. We had been designing this piece for a client for some time, when suddenly the idea of cast glass panels helped draw the whole design together. We learned to cast and anneal the glass ourselves which helped add a whole new element to our design capabilities. At more than 6' long, this table is massive in size and thickness, but delicate in balance. It is a mere 11.5" deep, and the ends of the top and the legs themselves are slightly angled inwards toward the front. The simplicity of the design speakes volumes of the complexity of its construction. Photo from fred from Phoenix
